Another Grand Opening
Again and again
Hello world
My online store is now live! I’ve added a list of my illustrations from the past months to it. I’ve been trying to open my accessibility to collectors and I’m hoping this is the next step in my art journey.
The illustrations themselves are focused around my main medium of clay animations. I’ve realized I spend at least 1/5th of my day staring at clay so it influences everything that I make now. I love the way it folds and wrinkles, how it captures the imperfections of handmade craft, and its urgency for transformation. Each frame begs for the next to be made. I want to capture these transitions in my illustrations. I recapture the fluidity of transformation to create shapes that fold and evolve as we follow along. I’ve sculpted all my life but I’ve always worked with pencils, and that is as integrated in my days as my clay is.
It’s a new way to visualize movements and adaptations for me. With my handhelds, I create with no idea in mind. This translates into my drawings as well - it starts with random scratches on some paper until a shape appears. After a trance and some shading, I leave with a finished piece. When I finish my stopmotion on the train I either go to social media or drawing, and I’m content with both. If my work slows down, I start scratching paper again. It’s really nice to have my mediums feed eachother in this way. I’ve built art into as much of my life as possible.
It can be exhausting, but I love seeing change and transformation. I want to know what happens next. And what’s next for me is a new website.
I really liked my old website, but it had too much going on, and I didn’t know how to even start overhauling it. I just started from scratch - cut down on the extra parts. I miss the personality of the old website for sure. But I’m hoping to add more over time. I removed the woodworkings too so now that’s just lost media 😔. Alas, I’m sure they resurface somewhere. It’s been tough switching to a new website client and idrk what I’m doing but hopefully I can just consolidate all my links everywhere.
It’s a good step but a hard one.
It’s odd fitting monetizing into my art practice, but it doesn’t seem too difficult. I already make sellable works and they’ve already been sold. From products, like my art book, nfts, physical pieces, prints, and commissions. I know there’s people that want to collect, I just need more venues for accessibility. I do want more traditional and physical presence too so it’s all working perfectly together. And it’ll look good asf so there’s also that lol. alas alas alas…
I honestly need to re-understand money and get a healthier relationship and appreciation of it.
I wrote out a lot of this email back in october, and now I don’t know how to end it. I stay up at night waiting for the day I can be a full time artist. It’s something I didn’t know I dreamed of until the past few years, so I can never say that this was something I wanted my whole life. I want the freedom of it. The life to create and see what humanity can create, and to bring what I know into existence. Words are not my medium, but I can tell stories impossible through my art, and I want to share these thoughts and ideas. I don’t know if I want these to be validated by the world, but I do want the world to see it. Maybe I’d be down if the world agreed with it, but then whats the point. I’m a bit sleep deprived (see second sentence of paragraph) but I see the shift happening soon. All it takes is
Much love to yall,
