How to Control Time
Time isn’t that linear. It does move forward (from my own personal experience, ofc) but at very different rates. On a day in, after binging anime for hours, time usually flies until i get to a boring plot point, and then it takes ages. When I take a walk, time is barely moving at all, even though the sun sets at the same time. Until I have to pee, then time accelerates at a beyond abnormal rate. When create art, time vanishes; I enter a different, time-free dimension, and only return when I go on my phone am ready to leave the piece. When I use my phone time also disappears. but in the worst way possible. its more like time speeds up infinitely, with no outcome after an hour of scrolling thru funny cat reels and occasional anime clips. That passage of time is kinda ridiculous too cuz y does it have to b like that. Y cant time wait for me to look at my silly little pictures and silly little videos. alas, we move.
There is a way to control it tho. And yes, this is gonna be one of my corny “emails about self improvement which can be summarized in a sentence”. Time alters only(ish) if/when there are things to do after the current event. Time slows when the upcoming event is exciting. Time speeds up when the upcoming event is boring. Anticipation is the feeling that can control time. In periods of daily events and activities, it can feel like an infinite lifetime. Each event is exciting, and gives you the energy and life to move forward to the next event. Time speeds up when you are bored as shit. each moment feels like nothing, and you barely feel present. Time is trying to force you into doing something exciting, so it speeds itself up in the hope that you can get ur shit going.
When I make art, time stops. Each action, be it drawing, carving, or other, provides anticipation for the next stroke of a pencil or blade. Excitement (or presence? maybe thats the better word) for each action creates infinite time. Until you have to pee or go on ur phone bc someone sent you a meme. Or you have to listen to the new yves tumor album again bc its j that good(it is). But back to the art; each action builds excitement for the next. Over time, you have a final product you have in your mind, and each marking further fleshes it out, and anticipation builds to break the current space-time continuum. The key to time control is excitement for your actions.
Its so hard to be excited about what you are doing under a capitalist world, as there are so many not exciting things coming up. But there has to be a shift in focus. We can react to what is yet to come (bills) or we can be active in what we create (literally anything that can be enjoyed in the moment-from food, art, health, work(*), etc). Being present for things, and lining up things the right way w proper scheduling can really get life to flow in some of the best ways possible.
Last paragraph: this means you gotta schedule what you like doing. Theres no “ill do it when im free”. In a world where your boss can call you from anywhere at anytime, its hard to be legitimately free. Create time in your calendar to do stuff you enjoy, so you can feel truly present in that moment, and not have to worry abt anything coming next. You can stop time by creating your own time.
Feeling fill ah soff ick al :)
So much love,

Ps. I dont think ive ever spelled “sentence” correctly on the first try. it feels like “sentance” is better but idk
pss. time management has gotten me thru a lot of rough patches, but its rly just hard to get into and wrap ur head around. you realize its benefits once ur already deep in it; try it fr, especially if ur in a bit of a rut. bite sized time slots work best when ur j starting
piss. im in nyc rn for like a handful of pieces being shown im so excited for this lmfao. and im graduating in like 3 weeks there is finally light in my eyes again
vibe of the newsletter^ time management can only help (unless you completely disregard ur life requirements) and without it, its so easy to slip up
